We are nothing but a moving row
Of Magic Schaduw-shapes that come and go
Round with the Sun-illuminated Lantern held
In Midnight by the Master of the Show.
We fearlessly defend Him as He plays
Upon his Checker-board of Nights and Days;
Hither and thither moves and checks, and wins,
And then another universe begins
Ormuzd in wondrous Strength and Brilliance grows,
Whilst Ahriman in deepst of darkness goes,
And he who guided all with his own hand,
