(Quotations from the instructions in the Chapter: "How to sing")

.....6. The posture of the body during the singing is of great importance. The chest should be arched, then will we remain conscious of the indestructible vitality gathered within us. The chest should not go up and down: any movement should happen within, and in as far as necessary, be made by the belly. Slowly we release the air from the lungs and we use up no more from it than our vocal cords do need.

7. ... The chest should remain high and the ribs should expand sideways, while we slowly contract the body at the heighth of the navel, or more justly said: just above the navel and just under the area of the stomach. As soon as this will go some more easily, the position of the chest will become higher and only then will the ribs spread out more. ...Inside the chest are the lungs, that maintain the whole system of organs, in active vitality....

8. ... Forcing should be avoided, that is harmful. We should move with the greatest possible degree of relaxation, so not move one muscle more than is absolutely necessary for an upright posture, an arched chest and full breathing in and out in connection with the vibration of the vocal cords. ...

9. Help with breathing may be found in the Mazdaznan breathing-out exercise that stops physical disorders and in the breathing-in exercise that removes mental fatigue. Both these exercises improve and alleviate breathing, also in relation to singing. By doing the other, rhythmical breathing exercises, and the harmony-exercises, by a rightly chosen diet and by a fitting body care, we have been given the means to sustain our evolution at all times, and experience the blessing of that. ...
