THE CHARIOT OF HERMES: SEVENTH KEY TO THE TAROT.

The symbolic meaning of card 7:

The card of triumph of the Will through Knowledge,  signifying the capacity of man to be King, master of his own destiny. There is also a strong and interesting resemblance between the King, driving the chariot and Krishna, the Most High Personality of Godhead, driving the chariot for Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita!

The Sphinxes (or Cherubs) represent the warring passions of The Lover now united by the control of man's mind over his body, a control achieved through self-knowledge and an appreciation of the interaction between the two. The canalization of agression to creative, not destructive ends can also be seen in this picture of a conqueror who has fought no war. In the Essene Book of Genesis (their original, unadulterated version) there are two angels, to guide us back to the Garden of Eden. In ancient Essene symbolism, the Tree of Life (representing the total of natural and spiritual forces and laws) is surrounded by Angels of Light who will show man the way back to the tree so he may eat from it and live forever in harmony with the natural and spiritual laws.

"So He drove out the Man; and He placed at the East of the Garden of Eden Cherubim, and a Flaming Light which turned every way, to show the way to the Tree of Life". (Chapter III, The Essene Book of Genesis)

In the book of Genesis there is talk of "Two Angels with flaming Swords". In the ancient tradition of India the flaming sword (see illustration above) is the symbol of: Enlightenment by the removal of Ignorance...!

If we understand this Great Lesson, which is central in our quest on Earth, we may return there, to eat from the Tree of Life, having solved our problem with the knowledge about the true harmony we should achieve by having a true knowledge of the relation between good and evil. In the Veda's it is said: "From the churning of the Milk-Ocean became Good and Bad". The Essenes solved this problem by saying: "Strengthen Good, and evil will disappear all by itself." Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov told the story he learnt in India about not killing the dragon, but taming it, so it could carry you all through the universe (the Black Dragon then becomes a White one). In India this is symbolised by the Brahman priest-lamp in the shape of a dragon that carries a light (candle or oil-lamp), depicting the same kind of victory. This is also so very beautifully symbolized by the life story of Quan-Yin, Mother of Mercy of the Chinese Tradition.

Quan Yin, Mother of Mercy

Indeed Yin and Yang, the two dragons that are also symbolically present in the 7-armed candle of the Mazdaznan, should work together, so they will, united, pull the King's Chariot! So we see that this wisdom is indeed to be found in all the great original Esotheric teachings!

Ancient medallion of the Goddess Anahita
found in Northern Afghanistan in 1978
(National Geographic, March, 1990)

Ainyahita, a woman prophet living over 9,000 years ago in the Southern part of Tibet, was the first to be blessed with the revelations on which the Mazdaznan educational and religious systems are based. Ainyahita is referred to in ancient Persian scriptures as the Goddess Anahita. According to Dr. Ha'nish, many of her teachings, albeit changed over time, spread as far as Egypt, Greece, India, China and even to pre-Colombian America. Ainyahita displays the same symbolism of dualism as the two pillars on card 2 of the Tarot:

(The High Priestess, seated between two pillars, a black one with "B" on it on the left and a white one with "J"on it, on the right). On an ancient medallion she is depicted as  standing in between the two trees, with birds on it, symbolizing the duality: the Tree of Life and the tree of Knowledge of Good and bad, that can also be found in Freemason-Temples as two pillars under the name of Jachin and Boaz; even on the prehistoric "tell's" mentioned in the Old Testament as the Kanaänitic heights (hills on top of which people greeted the sun at sunrise, prehistoric clay models of those have been dug up, to be seen in the Louvre Museum, Paris: ("Sit Shamshi" from Susa) two symbolic columns were placed!
